  • From rainny Central Queensland back to rainny Sydney

Question: What's made of pure carbon, shiny, and is worth a lot of money in terms of export???Answer: It's not diamond, it's high quality coal (yes they are kinda shiny). Last Thursday I went to this huge coal mine in Central Queensland. My day started at 5:10am, got up got changed grabbed all my stuff jumped onto the cab off to the airport I went. Me and my boss flew to Brisbane first and then to Mackay. From Mackay we then drove another 2 and half hours to this small mining town called Moranbah. By 2pm we finally reached this huge open-cut coal mine outside Moranbah. I then went around the site with my boss and two other mine engineer and simply had a look around. Queensland is so much warmer than Sydney~~ Anyways it was quite interesting just going around, although I didn't get to take pictures with 50 tonne trucks. After we were finished we had to drive for another 3 hours back to Mackay because that's where our hotel's at. Due to a lil unfamiliarity with the Central Queensland street directory we finally arrived at the hotel at 7pm. If we had got there 5 minute later we might not have rooms because the hotel reception girls was just leaving! At 7pm! What kind of hotel shuts the reception at 7pm??? Anyways, overall I did 2 hours of work, 20 minute lunch and approximately11.5 hoursof travelling...The best thing about the day was on the way back my boss let me drove because frankly I need some practise and in the future I might need to drive around a lil bit. It was a lot of fun and felt a lil bit like dejavu of the end of Year 12 cos that's when I did most of my driving (I haven't driven a lot since moving to Sydney). Then it started to rain...pouring rain...and then it got dark...really dark...I am surprised I didn't skid off the road and kill a couple kangaroos! Afterall Queensland is still Queensland. Eventhough it was monsooning hardcore for most of the afternoon I was still able to get around wearing a T-shirt without freezing myself to death. The next morning we once again got up at 4:30am and went all the way back to Sydney. Rainy Sydney that is. I really hate rainy days. But anyways I guess I'll call it a day.
